The Town has also undertaken several new initiatives that are aimed at fast-tracking land release and development within the Town, such as:
1. The Town’s Land Rationalisation Plan: This plan identifies all vacant land within both Port and South Hedland and discusses the opportunities that exist for land development at each site.
2. Planning for the New Spoil Bank Precinct and the Pretty Pool Development: Both highly attractive development sites, of which Council endorsed its preferred concept designs earlier this year, as the precursor to the release of various land parcels in these areas throughout 2010.
3. Establishing a new Economic and Land Development Department: As economic growth within the town is closely linked to the ready availability of developable land, the primary focus of this new team is on working closely with government and developers to streamline the land availability and development approvals processes.
