About Jan Ford
Jan is keenly interested in the Economic Development of Port Hedland by creating alternative industries and enhancing our social environment through strong strategic planning. Jan enjoys working with skilled and dedicated people throughout the state to plan Port Hedland's future during this time of enormous infrastructure and growth.
A permanent resident in Port Hedland, Jan's family history spans seven generations of indigenous and non indigenous heritage throughout the Pilbara.
Jan's a business woman in the property and finance industry, a member of multiple community groups, and an experienced local Government Councillor with the Town of Port Hedland. Jan is a member to the Port Hedland Port Authority Board and represents the Real Estate Institute as chairperson of the Pilbara branch.
Backgrounds in Hospitality, Business Management, Real Estate, Council, Industry and various Community consultation groups have enabled Jan to understand the issues facing regional communities today, and the need for strong strategic planning for the future.
The ability to see the long term goals and work with Community, Government and Industry are Jan's strengths.

A wide range of business experience with establishing, operating and managing several successful small businesses for over thirty years. These businesses include hospitality, retail, wholesaling, finance, property, business broking, investment and social and financial services. Jan was the founding director of Jan Ford Real Estate in 2002.
Jan has an extensive understanding of urban planning and housing needs through her career as a Real Estate Agent and Licensee, and as a Councillor with the Town of Port Hedland.
Jan works with variousenvironmental groups together with industry and Government to address the social, heritage and environmental issues in the Pilbara. Iniatives have been successful in obtaining independent dust monitoring, encouraging industry to work in ways to support community, social impact assessments and ensuring traffic studies are part of development.
An active and relevant understanding of community issues through varied community representations, including sports, recreation, indigenous issues, youth, heritage, history, arts, music and education.
Jan was a member and past president of the Port Hedland Visitors Centre, and actively promotes Port Hedland as an Industrial Tourism destination. Our Indigenous art is a growing industry and is actively supported throughout the region.
I was an active member of BHPB Community Consultative Committee since 2002 and the PHPA Users group since 2003 as a community representative. These positions enabled me to understand the industrial issues and be a conduit for information between industry and community.

As the community member of the Port Authority, Jan is involved with future planning for the industrial sector, and see it as an opportunity to integrate with our community needs.
Aboriginal Working Group
This group is responsible for creating a sustainable future through employment education and development for all indigenous people in our area.
